On June 3, 2007, the feature film DAUGHTERS OF WISDOM premiered at the Brooklyn International Film Festival, where it won two awards: the Audience Award for Best Documentary and an Outstanding Achievement in Editing Award.
Filmed in and around Kala Rongo Monastery in Nangchen, Tibet, director Bari Pearlman creates a vivid, intimate portrait of the lives of the nuns who live at Kala Rongo and the community around them. Through her work, we are invited to witness this culture on the verge of positive social change, realized thanks to educational opportunities previously unavailable to women in Tibet.
Thanks to Gena Konstantinakos for her contribution as cinematographer, Tsering Yuldron for her impressive translation skills, and Susan Ades for adding her visual eye to the editing of the preview. And a very special thank you to Lama Norlha Rinpoche — without his vision, kindness and generosity, neither this film nor any of what is contained within it would exist. May this and all his projects be of benefit to all beings.
